Hai Street planning an offshoot, Wok Street

An Asian rice- and noodle-bowl specialist seeks to occupy a former cell-phone store at 1518 Chestnut St.

Hai Street Kitchen - the high-flying sushi-burrito concept from the parent company of Genji (and no relation to High Street on Market) - hopes to open a spinoff, about three blocks from its Rittenhouse location.

The Center City Residents' Association on Tuesday Sept. 29 will hear plans for Wok Street, an Asian rice- and noodle-bowl specialist, that seeks to occupy a former cell-phone store at 1518 Chestnut St.

Plans have been kept under the radar, except for the name, which is registered to Peace Dining Corp., based in Center City.

Based on promotional videos and company literature, the Wok Street concept seems in line with that of Wokworks, which opened two years ago at 1935 Chestnut St.

Peace, whose brands include Genji, oversees the sushi made and sold in Whole Foods stores nationwide.

A rep from Peace did not return a message seeking elaboration.

Below is a video posted to YouTube several years ago of a prototype.
