Capogiro — the hometown gelato favorite — will close its location at 3925 Walnut St. on Penn's campus after business Sunday, Oct. 1.

Co-owner Stephanie Reitano cites rising rent after eight years, as well as other factors, including local competition. The shop is a tenant of the Radian, not the university.

She said the company was searching for another location.

Capogiro's first shop opened at 13th and Sansom Streets in December 2003 and expanded to include locations in Rittenhouse Square and East Passyunk, as well as the pizzeria/gelateria Cappofitto in Old City.

The name roughly means "swooning" or "dizziness."
