PGW reduces gas bills

Philadelphia Gas Works on Thursday announced it is reducing the commodity charge for residential customers by 6.6 percent for the next three months.

Philadelphia Gas Works on Thursday announced it is reducing the commodity charge for residential customers by 6.6 percent for the next three months.

The cost for natural gas will decrease from $1.51 per hundred cubic feet to $1.40. The price for PGW's commercial, industrial and municipal customers also decreased, reflecting the lower cost of natural gas.

Utilities adjust their commodity charges periodically to reflect changes in market conditions. They are obliged to pass on the cost of energy without markup.

The larger part of a PGW bill, the distribution charge, which pays for the costs of operating the utility, is unaffected.
