Foamex International Inc., Linwood, said chief executive John G. Johnson Jr. has been named the company's president, following the resignation of Gregory J. Christian from that post.

Johnson, 66, the company's CEO between 1999 and 2001, returned to the foam product maker in April.

Christian, 41, who has been at Foamex for 11 years, and led it through a chapter 11 restructuring, resigned "to pursue other opportunities," the company said in a prepared statement.

Foamex released second-quarter financials on Aug. 10, when it said three-month sales fell 7 percent, while income had swung to a profit of $7.6 million, compared to a net loss of $13.2 million a year earlier.

Foamex filed for bankruptcy protection in September 2005 and emerged as a reorganized company with less debt in February.

Shares in the company were unchanged at $8.10 in over-the-counter trading this morning.
