Playing for two championships in two weeks, Rancocas Valley's football team earned the first outright title with Wednesday's 35-12 win over Burlington Township to clinch the West Jersey Football Leagpe Capitol Division.
"This is something we wanted a long time," said senior running/safety Iverson Clement, who rushed for 181 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. "Last year we almost got it and this year we are going for another championship next week."
Clement has committed to the University of Florida and says he still plans to attend the school despite the firing of coach Jim McElwain. Clement will be visiting Florida for Saturday's game against Florida State.
The Red Devils (10-1, 5-0) would have shared the title with Lenape had they lost to host Burlington Township.
On Dec. 2, Rancocas Valley will meet Lenape in the South Jersey Group 5 championship. The Red Devils beat Lenape, 10-7 in the regular season.
Burlington Township (6-4, 2-3) took a 6-0 lead on quarterback David Grozozski's first of two short touchdown runs. The Red Devils would then assume command by scoring the next 35 points.
Senior Marc Sykes scored three touchdowns for the Red Devils.
