Sideshow: The sexiest man is Philly's own

What happens on a subatomic level when one is crowned People's sexiest man in the universe? How did homeboy Bradley Cooper feel when he found out he had been thus anointed? What did he say?

"My mother is going to be so happy," Cooper, 36, said, according to People. The mag says it chose the Hangover star not for looks alone, but also because he's smart (he conquered Germantown Academy, then Georgetown University), he's an amateur chef who can throw down a mean homemade pasta dish, he's fluent in French, and he rides motorcycles. "I think it's really cool that a guy who doesn't look like a model can have this," Cooper tells People. "I think I'm a decent-looking guy. Sometimes I can look great, and other times I look horrifying." Cooper, who is single, is currently in Philly shooting The Silver Linings Playbook.

Runners-up this year include Ryan Gosling, Idris Elba, Tim McGraw, and Alec Baldwin.

Cameron Diaz and Sean "Diddy" Combs have been seen eating lunch - together - at Scarpetta in Beverly Hills. People mag says they even drank wine - together. They're just friends, Cam's rep tells the mag.

Us Weekly begs to differ: The glossy says the two have been seen "nuzzling" in public. Anonymous Source says when Cam is in between boyfriends, she looks up - and hooks up with - Diddy.

Philly's proudest daughter, Kate Gosselin, says her new job, as a coupon blogger, is fulfilling, even salvific. Kate, who insists she's not giving up her dream of securing her very own talk show (don't be a hater, bro, she'd be good at it), writes about clippin' strategies on CouponCabin.com.

"I want to help spread the word to help other moms and families so they can save as much as they can," Kate tells gossip news show Extra. Her next blog, on Tuesday, will offer tips on how to survive Black Friday.

Before she writes her next blog, Kate is taking it easy - sans her eight kids - with a visit Down Under: E! News says Kate hung out with the wildlife Tuesday at Australia Zoo in Sydney for Steve Irwin Day.

Coatesville native Johnny Weir, 27, will strap on his skates for his first show in Philly in five years in Holiday Dreams on Ice, a magical-mystical show Dec. 23 featuring 100 figure skaters. Weir, a three-time U.S. national champion, will be joined in the show by Ashley Wagner, Armin Mahbanoozadeh, Israeli Olympian and University of Pennsylvania student Tamar Katz, U.S. silver medalist Brandon Mroz, and international competitor Samantha Cesario

Kate 'n' William are pregnant. Or not.

The royal rumor mill began grinding in earnest about 10 days ago after ABC News reported that the Duchess of Cambridge refused to eat peanut paste during a royal visit to Denmark. Seems pregnant women are advised to stay away from the stuff. Proof positive! Gossip blog HollywoodLife claims Kate fainted recently. Another proof! And Wednesday, Us Weekly said Kate is busy outfitting three royal nurseries and has begun the arduous search for names. "Edward, Philip and Michael are likely choices for a boy, or Alice or Rose for a girl," some Insider Person told the mag.

Another source (my imagination) tells me William had decided on Obi-Wan Kenobi.

SubMensa Society president Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, 29, has filed a $4 mil lawsuit against Abercrombie & Fitch three months after the fashion company announced it would pay him not to wear its duds. The Sitch claims A&F tried to profit by using his name. Seems the Jersey Shore star needs the cash: His costar and SubMensa veep Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi tells In Touch Weekly the Sitch has blown all his money - upwards of $10 mil - buying stupid stuff and having fun.

Robert De Niro, here filming The Silver Linings Playbook, had customers texting excitedly Saturday. He visited not one but two Stephen Starr restaurants. He and his wife started at Talula's Garden on Washington Square and wound up later for a nightcap at Il Pittore, near Rittenhouse Square. Tuesday night, I got word they joined the friends-and-family meal at yet another Starr spot, Route 6, opening Friday. De Niro's costar - and the sexiest man on the planet - Bradley Cooper, meanwhile, is a sorta-regular at the Dandelion, another Starr restaurant near Rittenhouse Square.
