Update: A note to Philly.com readers

Over the last few days, users of several Web sites – including some popular media sites – have been warned that they have been exposed to a virus. We’ve heard this from some of Philly.com’s users, too. Here's what we've done to protect you online.

To our readers:

Philly.com believes we've resolved a computer security issue that we first told you about this afternoon. Today, we removed an ad from our site that seemed to be spreading malicious software.

Over the last few days, users of several Web sites – including us, and including other popular media sites – have been warned that they have been exposed to malicious software. We reacted quickly.

We shut down some of the ad networks on our site that bring in ads from many different providers, and we scanned all other advertisements on our site. That's how we found this problematic ad.

We will remain vigilant on behalf of our users' internet security. If you have any concerns, please let us know immediately by e-mailing feedback@philly.com.

Thank you for reading,
