On the same afternoon that a toddler was struck by bullets in Philadelphia, two babies were found dead in other parts of the region, according to reports.

One was at a day care center in Wilmington.

The other was discovered in a large trash can or dumpster in Lancaster.

In the Delaware case, a two-month-old infant was found dead in a crib yesterday afternoon at Ribbons and Bows Day Care on Jessup Street, according to WPVI-TV (Ch. 6). The cause of death is under investigation.

The Lancaster baby was found by police after a pedestrian reported a strong smell coming from the trash bin in the 500 block of North Market Street, according to the Intelligencer Journal.

Police were uncertain about the infant's sex and race, and hope to find out more from an autopsy today, the newspaper reports.

Investigators are also looking for the mother, who, evidence suggests, had injuries while giving birth.
