A North Philadelphia community is preparing for a tough week - the burial of three teenagers killed in a Saturday-night car accident.
A fundraiser will be held at 6 tonight at Tierra Colombiana restaurant, 5th Street near Raymond, to help the families pay funeral costs.
Esteban "Macho" Santiago, 19; Luis Figueroa, 17, and Wilfredo Trevino, 18, were killed after a Buick allegedly driven by Hanif Presley, 27, struck their Honda Civic about 11:15 p.m. on American Street near Cecil B. Moore Avenue. They were in the car with three others, who were injured.
Presley, who police say fled on foot, was arrested Sunday and charged with homicide by vehicle, fleeing the scene of an accident and other crimes, police said.
Santiago and Trevino were members of Grupo Fuego, a North Philadelphia dance group, and Figueroa was part of STEP, also part of Grupo Fuego.
Angel Trevino, Wilfredo's younger brother and a student at Roman Catholic High School, was hurt in the crash and remained in Temple University Hospital yesterday.
Two other friends - Angel Machado, 18, and Domingo Suarez, 18 - were treated at area hospitals and released on Sunday.
Machado said that Angel Trevino, who was in critical condition at one point, is now talking. He declined to discuss the accident.
City Councilwoman Maria Quinones Sanchez told officials at Roman and at Community Academy Charter School of the deaths, she said.
Two Latino organizations, Concilio and Aspira, are collecting donations for the families. *
