Plans for the new veterans cemetery in Bucks County will be available for review tonight during a public briefing by the Department of Veterans Affairs at Washington Crossing Historic Park.
Construction on the first phase of the cemetery, to be known as Washington Crossing National Cemetery, is set to start next year and be ready for the first burials toward the end of the year, said VA spokesman Michael Nacincik.
It will be located on a 205-acre tract in Upper Makefield Township near the historic Village of Dolington. The land was owned by Toll Bros. Inc., which sought "unappealable" approval to build 200 homes nearby as a condition of the sale.
Facing the prospect of lengthy legal battles, the government persuaded Toll to drop that condition, and in March, the land was sold to the VA for $10.5 million.
The briefing, which will be led by Undersecretary for Memorial Affairs William F. Tuerk, starts at 7:30 p.m. The park is at 1112 River Rd. - Nancy Petersen
