An unidentified man who witnesses said jumped in front of a commuter train this morning in Camden is being treated at Cooper University Hospital, authorities said.

The man is suffering from a partially severed leg after being rescued from beneath a PATCO Hi Speed Line rail car shortly before 10 a.m.

A westbound train struck the man at 9:15 a.m. in Camden at the Broadway Station at the Walter Rand Transportation Center, said a spokeswoman for the Delaware River Port Authority, which operates the train line.

Lindenwold-bound rail traffic was stopped for 10 mintues - from 9:19 to 9:29 - as workers rerouted the trains to a single track.

Trains, which usually run every 12 minutes, were running every 20 minutes until normal service resumed at 11 a.m.

One PATCO passenger, who only identified himself Mark, had been waiting on the platform as the train pulled in and said he saw a man "either slip or jump in front of the lead car." The train then jerked to a halt, he said.

Another passenger, Lou Ciotti of Williamstown, said that he had been on the train and heard that the man had jumped.
