Violence claimed the lives of four men in Philadelphia last night.

In the first case, Dallas Custalow was bludgeoned with a shovel, trash can and chair by a neighbor on the 1300 block of Anchor Street in Frankford about 8:31 p.m., police said.

The neighbor - a 44-year-old man with a history of mental illness - then barricaded himself in his house and kept police at bay for four hours before surrendering early this morning.

The man is being questioned by detectives at Police Headquarters and had not yet been charged.

Gunfire claimed the other lives, including a double homicide in North Philadelphia.

Police found the bullet riddled bodies of Daheem White, 21, and Hassan Baldwin, 25, about 10:50 p.m. after responding to the intersection of North 10th and Master Streets.

Investigators sought both a motive and suspects in the slayings.

They also were seeking the motive in the slaying of Steven Hackett, 21, who was shot by an unknown gunman shortly before 10 p.m. inside the China King restaurant on the 2900 block of N. 22nd Street, near Cambria.

Hackett, of the 2700 block of Opal Street, was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital at 10:13 p.m., police said.

A second unidentified man was shot twice in the chest but was able to drive himself to Temple where he was reported in stable condition.
