DeWeese to run again

HARRISBURG - Longtime State Rep. Bill DeWeese (D., Greene) today announced that he is seeking another term in office even as he faces political corruption charges in the so-called Bonusgate investigation.
In a statement issued today, DeWeese didn't mention those charges except to say, "Obviously in this election I am facing unprecedented challenges.
"But as a Marine and a long-time public servant, I am well prepared for the battle ahead."
In December, Attorney General Tom Corbett charged DeWeese, 59, with theft, conspiracy and conflict of interest for allegedly using state-paid legislative staff for campaign-related tasks.
The charges forced DeWeese to step down as Democratic whip, and he reverted back to a rank-and-file lawmaker for the first time since the 1980s.
DeWeese, who served a term as House Speaker in the early 1990s, has represented the rural 50th district in the rural southwestern corner of the state for three decades.
