The victim, identified Thursday morning as Steven Perry, was shot once in the chest about 7 p.m. on the 2800 block of Water Street.
Perry, who lived at hospice for homeless men in Center City, died at 9:16 p.m. at Temple University Hospital. police said.
Police found a single .22-caliber shell casing at the crime scene.
No arrest has been made, police said.
