Coach is accused of attacking boy, 8
The child was thrown to the ground, police said, during a Camden County football game.
A 31-year-old assistant coach in a midget football league was charged with assaulting an 8-year-old player during a game Saturday in Winslow Township, Camden County, authorities said.
Kyle Cantz, of Hammonton, is scheduled to appear in court in Camden on Sept. 3.
Cantz, an assistant with the Atco Lions midget football team, posted 10 percent of a $5,000 bail and was released Saturday after being charged with assault at a sporting event and making terroristic threats, Winslow Township police said yesterday.
Cantz "became upset over a play on the field," police said, during a game against the Jersey Pines at David Iullucci Memorial Park on Beebetown Road in the Cedar Brook section of Winslow Township.
About 5:30 p.m., Cantz grabbed the 8-year-old, threw him to the ground, and held him down by his face mask, according to the reports given to police by witnesses.
Cantz then left the field, authorities said, and the incident was reported to police, who arrested him.
He could not be reached for comment yesterday.
