One man remained at large last night after a Deptford bank heist yesterday in which two robbers crashed their getaway vehicle into a police cruiser.
Following the collision, in which a Deptford officer was injured, one of the suspects fled on foot, authorities said. A manhunt lasted until late in the afternoon.
Deptford police arrested the other man, Darnell Lamont Adams, 45, of Philadelphia, on a robbery charge.
Deptford officers and other agencies, including the Gloucester County SWAT team and state police, spent hours searching the woods near Clements Bridge Road for the second man before calling off the search.
"We're confident that we'll apprehend him," said Deptford Detective Sgt. George Johnson.
Adams and his accomplice, whose name was not known, allegedly robbed The Bank at Evergreen and Park Avenues at about 10:30 a.m., police said. Security cameras captured images of the men, who did not use weapons.
Police said the men took cash from the bank and drove away on Clements Bridge Road, then collided head-on with a cruiser driven by Sgt. Christopher Thomas. One of the men got out of the car and ran into the woods.
Thomas was taken to Cooper University Hospital with facial injuries and later released. He lost several teeth, Johnson said.
Adams suffered minor injuries and was also taken to Cooper. Some cash was recovered in the car, police said.
Authorities said the man they are searching for is black and was wearing a black shirt and jeans. He is described as being six feet and weighing between 170 and 180 pounds. Anyone with information is asked to call 856-845-2220.
