A man and a woman were shot while they were stopped at a traffic light in a Dodge Neon in West Philadelphia on Saturday night, police said.
The shooting unfolded shortly after 6 p.m. on Girard Avenue near Merion. A gunman sneaked up next to the passenger side of the car and opened fire, shooting the 30-year-old male passenger in the head and chest, a law enforcement source said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 26-year-old woman, who was behind the wheel, was shot once in the chest and twice in the left arm. She was admitted to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition.
