Phillies’ ballpark gets new field

Citizens Bank Park's field has gotten a face-lift.

Citizens Bank Park's field has gotten a face-lift.

After six seasons, three National League East titles and two World Series, the original playing field was replaced after the 2009 postseason with new sod.

Phillies players will get their first look at the new field during an exhibition game against Pittsburgh on April 2.

As is the current trend, the team is selling "authentic game-used sod" as a collectible.

The Phillies said the grass has been sectioned into 3 inch-by-3 inch pieces, freeze-dried, preserved and displayed in a UV-glass case with a photo of the field and highlights of the ballpark.

Cost is $79.99 for outfield or infield sections, or $119.99 for a piece of the painted Phillies logo section from behind home plate during the postseason. The logo pieces have been numbered from 1 to 2009.

The pieces are available for purchase at the Majestic Clubhouse Store at the ballpark and online at www.phillies.com or www.stadiumassociates.com.
