Homemade pipe bombs raise concerns in Pennsylvania town

Investigators were seeking a suspect and a motive Thursday after two pipe bombs were found in a southeastern Pennsylvania community.

THORNDALE, Pa. — Investigators were seeking a suspect and a motive Thursday after two pipe bombs were found in a southeastern Pennsylvania community.

Caln Township police posted on Facebook that a postal worker found an undetonated pipe bomb at 14th Avenue and Olive Street on Tuesday. The Montgomery County Bomb Squad safely removed the device.

On Wednesday, a caller reported an explosion near a railroad trestle about half a mile away from the first location.

Officers found a device that appeared to have been detonated, police said. “No property damage in the area of the device was discernable,” they said.

No one was injured.

Police said both devices appear homemade.

Officers were urging the public not to handle any suspicious devices.
