Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel split after 10 years of marriage

Actor couple Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel have decided to end their 10 year marriage.

The pair first met on the Broadway set of Rent in 1995. Soon after, they dated for years and got married in 2003. In 2005, they costarred in the film adaptation of the Broadway show, with Menzel playing bisexual performance artist Maureen and Diggs playing landlord Benny. The couple have a 4-year-old son together named Walker.

"Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs have jointly decided to separate at this time," reps for the couple said in a statement. "Their primary focus and concern is for their son. We ask that you respect their privacy during this time."

In an April interview with People, Menzel chatted briefly about the difficulties of maintaining work, mommy hood, and marriage:

"We work at it," Menzel admitted. "I'm not going to glamorize it or glorify it—we go through tough times like everybody else, but we love each other very much. We try not to be away from each other for more than two weeks at a time and we try to find new ways to communicate."

E! points out that Menzel was not present at the premiere of Diggs' latest film, The Best Man Holiday.
