Tonight: Free food for National Moonshine Day

Chef Bruce Santino will celebrate National Moonshine Day on Thursday, June 5 by throwing a free party for everyone who visits JJ Bootleggers in Old City between 6 and 9 p.m.

He will offer comp tastes of Ole Smoky Moonshine and samples of his new summer menu items, which includes a cheesesteak wit moonshine "whiz", flash fried squash blossom tacos, and an extra thick chocolate blackberry moonshine milkshake featuring Bassetts ice cream and Hershey's chocolate syrup.

In addition to the free milkshakes, moonshine and menu items, Santino will be offering $3 draught beers and $5 moonshine cocktails until midnight.

Here are the new menu items:

Flash Fried Squash Blossom Tacos ($13), two fresh squash blossoms stuffed with braised beef, pepper jack cheese, charred peppers & onions. Drizzled with Molé sauce & cilantro oil.

Shrimp Po' Boy Lettuce Wraps ($13), crispy fried Gulf shrimp, diced tomatoes, jardinière and a moonshine remoulade sauce.

Tuna Poke with Sesame Wonton Chips ($12), marinated sushi-grade tuna loin chunks, red onion, soy, chives, ginger, pineapple, cucumber and papaya.

Mexican Chicken Salad ($10), pulled braised chicken with avocado cream, pico de gallo, shucked corn and cheddar cheese. Served with seasoned house-made tortilla chips.

Beer Mussels ($12), grilled corn, jalapenos, shallots, confit tomatoes, in a Goose Island 312 Urban Pale Ale broth. Finished with bacon.

Cheesesteak Wit Moonshine "Whiz"  ($11), chopped seared ribeye with crispy fried onions and a moonshine Mornay sauce on a crusty roll.

Ahi Tuna Hoagie ($11), marinated lightly poached tuna with tomato bacon jam, field greens, cucumbers and red onion. Lemon caper chive oil drizzle.

Jerked Pineapple Wings ($11), served with carrots & bleu cheese dressing.

Pineapple Upside Down Bread Pudding ($8), drizzled with caramel & topped with ginger whipped cream.

Extra Thick Chocolate Blackberry Moonshine Milkshake  ($10), Blackberry Ole Smoky Moonshine blended with Bassetts chocolate ice cream, Hershey's chocolate syrup and topped with house-made whipped cream and an Ole Smoky Moonshine Maraschino cherry.
