Kenney launches new website to engage public on pre-K
Mayor Kenney on Friday launched a new website where he invited pre-K providers, parents and others to get involved in his effort to have universal pre-K in Philadelphia.
Mayor Kenney on Thursday asked City Council to back his plan for universal pre-K -- and the soda tax he's proposed to pay for it.
On Friday, he turned his attention to the public, launching a new website where he invited pre-K providers, parents and others to get involved.
The site, "Ready. Set. Pre-K," offers an open invitation to those who want to enroll their child in pre-K, serve as a pre-K provider, or volunteer. Those interested can enter their name and contact information. City staff plan to follow up with individuals over the coming weeks.
"Our administration is committed to increasing access to affordable, quality pre-K, but we can't do it alone," Kenney said in a news release. "We need everyone's help."
The city's Chief Education Officer, Otis Hackney, called the website "an important tool for the city to start building a list, engaging the public, and assessing the needs and interest in expanded quality pre-K."
