German forward picks Washington over Temple and South Florida

Temple basketball fans have been wondering if the Owls were recruiting a towering presence for the upcoming season. They wanted Fran Dunphy's staff to deliver someone that could make the Temple faithful forget about the departure of Levoy Allen.

Apparently, the Owls attempted to do just that.

The Herald of Everett, Wash. is reporting that 6-foot-9 swingman Martin Breunig orally committed to the University of Washington over offers from Temple and South Florida. He will be eligible to play for the 2011-2012 season.

The native of Leverkeusen, Germany came to America last August.  Breunig originally committed to Maryland in February before signing with the Terps this spring. However, he requested and received his release after coach Gary Williams retired in April.

Breunig averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds at St. John's Military Academy in Wisconsin this past season. Washington and South Florida were his final two choices.
