Baseball: Pitman wins Group 1 state title

Steve Schuler pitched a complete game with 13 strikeouts and Nick Capelli hit a two-run home run as Pitman beat Whippany Park, 5-0, Saturday in the Group 1 state championship game in baseball.

Schuler, a senior left-hander who will attend Philadelphia University, allowed seven hits. He struck out six in the final three innings, including the last batter.

Capelli hit a two-run homer in the fifth. Dylan Colgate and Ryan Dill added RBI  hits in the sixth for Pitman (23-4), which won the program's first state title.
