It was a long day at Toms River North Saturday, a day that two softball teams will remember in different ways.

Gloucester Catholic reveled in the joy of winning the Non-Public B title, the school's first since 2003. The Rams beat Immaculate Conception-Lodi, 11-1.

Eastern wasn't able to claim the state Group 4 crown. Morris Knolls defeated the Vikings, 4-3.

However, Eastern is comforted in the knowledge that it wasn't supposed to get that far. It was all gravy after the Vikings advanced to the playoffs, and then beat Washington Township, 8-4, Shawnee, 3-2, and East Brunswick, 7-1, to get to the big dance.
