Delsea takes third straight sectional championship

After a scary second half in which Allentown tied the game twice before forcing overtime, Delsea held on to win its third straight South Jersey Group 3 football title with a 42-35 win Saturday at Rowan University.

Delsea had the ball first in overtime. On the fifth play of the drive — which started at the 25-yard line — Rashaad Washington escaped for a 10-yard touchdown to give Delsea the lead.

Allentown could not answer on its chance to punch it in from 25 yards, and Delsea held on for the win.

A game that was expected to be low-scoring turned into a shootout early. Delsea was ahead by 21-14 at halftime.

Isaiah Spencer carried the load for Delsea in the first half, rushing eight times for 90 yards in the half, including touchdown runs of 34 and 25 yards.

The two teams traded punches in the second half before the overtime period.
