Amtrak to replace flipping departure board at 30th Street Station

Amtrak will soon replace the traditional split-flap display at 30th Street Station that lists tracks and times for trains arriving in and departing from Philadelphia.

Amtrak will soon replace the traditional split-flap display at 30th Street Station that lists tracks and times for trains arriving in and departing from Philadelphia.

Plans to change out the board, commonly known as a Solari board after the Italian manufacturer, are still in the design phase, spokesman Mike Tolbert said.

While the Solari boards were once common, they are no longer as stations move to digital displays, Tolbert said. There is no set timetable for the project, he said.

Reaction to the news, first reported by Billy Penn, was swift on social media.

Philadelphia joins stations that include Newark and New York's Penn Station in replacing the classic board.
