Christmas Village closed, parade postponed due to rain threat

The threat of heavy rain Wednesday has forced the Christmas Village to close for the day and postpone its Lantern Parade.

The threat of heavy rain Wednesday has forced the Christmas Village to close for the day and postpone its Lantern Parade.

The popular holiday-season market officially opened Sunday at City Hall and runs through Christmas Eve. But anyone who had been planning to take care of holiday shopping there on Wednesday will have to wait a day.

Showers, including potentially heavy rain, are expected to develop Wednesday morning and continue through the day, prompting the closure. The village said its vendors would reopen at 11 a.m. Thursday.

The village's Lantern Parade, originally scheduled for Wednesday night, has been moved to Dec. 6. The event features a parade of lights, carols and a performance by the Philly Pops.

The market, now in its ninth year, has previously been located at LOVE Park but was moved to City Hall's Courtyard and North Apron this year due to construction at the park.
