Death of boy, 2, in Kensington ruled homicide
Police are investigating a 2-year-old boy's death in Kensington this week as a homicide.
The death of a 2-year-old boy's death in Kensington this week has been ruled a homicide.
The boy, identified Thursday as Zyair Worrell, died at St. Christopher's Hospital at 2:10 a.m. Wednesday, about two hours after officers were called to a home on the 600 block of East Clementine Street for a report of an unresponsive child.
Police said Thursday that the motive in the boy's death was believed to be child abuse.
The child had suffered from a large laceration to his liver, bruising to his chest and right ear and an abrasion to his eye, police said. He also tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the active ingredient in marijuana.
The boy's 23-year-old mother and her 21-year-old boyfriend were at the Kensington home when police arrived late Tuesday night, authorities said.
No arrests had been announced as of Thursday morning.
