A former Army colonel who had been stationed at the Army War College in Carlisle was sentenced Wednesday to 12 years in prison for possessing and distributing child pornography.

Robert Rice, 59, is currently is serving a four-year sentence at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., after he pleaded guilty to similar counts in a military court-martial, according to a story on PennLive.
Rice was arrested in 2013 in Cumberland County after his wife found the pornographic images after installing a monitoring system on his computer, according to the PennLive story.
The case was later transferred to federal court for trial.
During his 37-year career, Rice developed war games at the college. His lawyer told the judge that addiction problems led Rice to download and share the pornographic images. Prosecutors said that Rice had claimed his wife planted the images on his computer.

Rice was fined $5,100 and must register as a sex offender, and will be subjected to computer monitoring during the 10 years he will spend on probation after he is released from prison.
