First look at R2L
The Daniel Stern restaurant in Two Liberty Place will open with a New Year's Eve bash.
R2L — Daniel Stern's contemporary American restaurant on the 37th floor of Two Liberty Place (50 S. 16th St., 215-564-5337) — opens Jan. 21, during Restaurant Week.
But for you ... here's a sneak peek at what will be the highest public restaurant* in the city.
Among the features:
Fourteen sumptuous banquettes with window seats for spectacular but not vertigo-inducing south and west views.
A hanging sculpture of cutlery by Ali Ahmad (based on Stern's concept) that catches the setting sun.
The open kitchen is enormous. There's a similarly spacious pastry kitchen, with a window, for pastry chef Peter Scarola, who won raves at the Inn at St. Peter's Village.
Menu follows; it starts Feb. 2 after Restaurant Week.
* Higher but private: The Pyramid Club on the 52d floor of Mellon Bank Center and Ralph's Cafe on the 43d and 44th floors of the Comcast Center.
