NYC's Bareburger opening in Center City

Bareburger, the New York-rooted organic/sustainable/eco-friendly chain, has signed up for 1109 Walnut St. - by coincidence a former Five Guys shop.

Those burger chains are mushrooming, aren't they?

BurgerFi just rolled out across from Reading Terminal Market. ... Burger Monger is crackin' in Willow Grove Park mall. ... There are now three Shake Shacks here. ... And five Smashburgers ... One Burger21.  ... Two Bobby's Burger Palaces. ... You have Zinburger in Cherry HIll ... ... Spike Mendelson's Good Stuff Eatery is coming to 18th and Chestnut this summer. ... Then there are Five Guys, Jake's Wayback, Elevation Burger, etc. etc.

And the vaunted Umami Burger is close to signing a lease.

I will toss one more into the mix:

Bareburger, the New York-rooted organic/sustainable/eco-friendly chain, has signed up for 1109 Walnut St. - by coincidence a former Five Guys shop.

Bareburger, which will have a liquor license, traces its beginnings to 2002 and a club in Brooklyn. Its first freestanding shop opened in 2009 in Astoria, Queens, and then the guys opened near NYU before franchising: there are now three in Queens, four in Manhattan, and one in Brooklyn.

The local franchisee - who wants anonymity for now - is an Army veteran from New York who was a fan of the place. He expects to open this summer.

Menu is not just burgers. Bareburger sells different meats (some exotics), as well as brunch sandwiches and salads.
