Pine Street Pizza closes after 32 years

The space is up for lease.

The 32-year run of Pine Street Pizza at 12th and Pine Streets in Washington Square West has come to a close.

Staffers on Tuesday are in the process of shutting it down, citing the end of the lease.

Prodromos "Paul" Boukidis founded the shop in 1983. He and his daughter Effie went on to open the popular Effie's, a Greek restaurant, down the street.

He died in 2009, and in tribute, Effie opened a small BYOB called Paul briefly across the street from Effie's. The spot is now the Farm & Fisherman.

Paul Boukidis' daughter Christine ran Pine Street Pizza at the end.

The space is up for lease, according to a real estate flyer from CBRE/Fameco.

Here's a sweet history of the place, from PhiladelphiaNeighborhoods.
