Grantland calls Bradley Cooper the 'smartest star in Hollywood'
Jenkintown's Bradley Cooper is Hollywood's golden boy of the moment.
Jenkintown's Bradley Cooper is Hollywood's golden boy of the moment. Fresh off his Oscar nod for his role in David O. Russell's The Silver Linings Playbook, Cooper did his cronies a solid by showing up (physically) for the filming of the third, dreadful Hangover film. But, it looks like The Hangover Part III will prove to be a minor blemish on his permanent record, considering that he's got another Russell film and a Spielberg project on tap. The folks at Grantland have taken notice.
Because in terms of career management, Cooper has, in the last year, emerged as one of the only youngish leading men outside the Affleck-Clooney-Damon-Ocean's orbit who knows exactly how to maximize his opportunities. The series of professional decisions Cooper has made since entering the Silver Linings Playbook phase of his career add up to a giant insurance policy: a plan to broaden his appeal, move forward as an actor, and stay so busy that he will never even have to hear the pitch for a movie with the words "Part IV" in the title. His current schedule is a perfect demonstration of how to use a single unexpectedly large success to trade up.
Grantland breaks down Cooper's upcoming projects, including the Cameron Crowe rom-com drama with Emma Stone, the Spielberg sniper project (which Cooper will also produce), the ensemble drama American Hustle with David O. Russell, andn the indie drama Sundance-darling-to-be, Serena. Oh, and those last two also star Jennifer Lawrence.
Ain't bad for a guy who was guest starring on Law & Order: SVU in 2005. [Grantland]
