Smart, Devine & Co. L.L.C., a Philadelphia-based accounting and consulting firm, said Friday that it will join the much larger New York-based Marcum L.L.P., effective Dec. 1.

In a statement, Marcum said that about 75 Smart Devine partners and staff will join Marcum, and that the firm's two Pennsylvania offices, in Center City and King of Prussia, will become part of Marcum. Smart Divine has about 85 employees now.

In the statement, Marcum said it has more than 1,400 employees, including 180 partners, in 25 offices in major U.S. business markets, Grand Cayman, and China.

"Combining with a national firm of Marcum's stature and reach is a natural progression for Smart Devine," James J. Smart, founder and CEO of Smart Devine, said in the statement.

Smart will join Marcum in the newly created position of partner-in-charge of mergers and acquisitions.

"The depth of Marcum's expertise and service offering will be a significant new asset for our clients, and we look forward to working with our new partners on a mutually beneficial future," he said.
