UPDATED: UHS in Doylestown fined by OSHA

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has fined Foundations Behavioral Health in Doylestown, a unit of Universal Health Services, $36,701 for failing to protect workers from physical assaults by patients, to conduct an annual review of its bloodborne-pathogen program, and to provide appropriate training to registered nurses and mental-health technicians.

OSHA began its inspection in May, after receiving complaints of assaults by patients on improperly protected workers at the 60-bed mental-health facility.

Foundations said it contested the OSHA findings on Nov. 14. "The company has safety policies in place which meet or exceed all regulatory guidelines and remains committed to the safety and well-being of our patients, their families, and our staff," the company said.
