The Aker Philadelphia Shipyard has delivered its seventh ship - a 600-foot-long product tanker to American Shipping Co., the company announced yesterday.

The newly named Overseas Nikiski, chosen after the small community of Nikiski in the Kenai Peninsula Borough of Alaska, will carry petroleum products for Tesoro Maritime Co., of San Antonio, Texas, which is chartering the ship from operator OSG America.

The ship that was just delivered is part of a series of 12 being built by the Philadelphia shipyard, with a completion date on the last ship expected in 2011.

The Philadelphia shipyard, which is built on 110 acres of the sprawling former Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, is now in various stages of building three other ships.
