Sideshow: Racist robots in 'Transformers'?

Does Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen suffer from the Jar Jar Syndrome? Some fans say two of the star cars are racial caricatures. Skids and Mudflap, twin Chevy compact hatchbacks, bicker in rap-influenced slang and can't read. One has a gold tooth.

Does

Michael Bay

's

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

suffer from the Jar Jar Syndrome?

Some fans say two of the star cars are racial caricatures. Skids and Mudflap, twin Chevy compact hatchbacks, bicker in rap-influenced slang and can't read. One has a gold tooth.

Some fans similarly complained that the Jar Jar Binks character added a negative racial component to George Lucas' otherwise awful Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.

Bay disagrees. "It's done in fun," he said. "I don't know if it's stereotypes - they are robots, by the way. These are the voice actors. This is kind of the direction they were taking." Reno Wilson, who is black, voices Mudflap. White actor Tom Kenny, the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants, does Skids. Wilson says he was shocked by the complaints. He says the twins are "wannabe gangster types" who learned English from the Web.

'Transformers' rakes in the cash

Speaking of Bay's baby, the

Transformers

sequel opened big on Wednesday with a one-day box-office draw of $60.6 mil, says the Hollywood Reporter. The flick is projected to clear $150 mil over the weekend. The first

Transformers

made $708 mil worldwide.

Meanwhile, newly minted sex icon Megan Fox says she won't apologize for being hot in the movie, a factor that helped its box-office appeal. "Women in movies, in general, are sexy - especially. . . . And if you want to make movies that people want to see, that's part of it," she recently told reporters.

She swings. She hits. Home run!

cohost

Rosie O'Donnell

has landed her very own talk show. But Rosie's triumphant return won't be on prime-time TV.

Or even daytime TV. Or on broadcast radio.

The Queen of Nice has been signed by Sirius XM Radio. She'll do a two-hour call-in talk show to debut in the fall.

You can thank Howard Stern: Rosie says she was approached by the satellite radio company after a recent appearance on Stern's show.

"He's been very encouraging," Rosie said.

She said Sirius XM was graciously allowing her to broadcast the show from her New York home, where she's busy raising four kids with her life partner, Kelli Carpenter.

The wisdom of Diaz: No kids for me

What on earth possessed

Cameron Diaz

to play a mother (!) in

Keeper With the Box

?, asks USAToday.com. "I'm not 25 years old. . . . Obviously I wasn't going to play the 14-year-old daughter," Diaz, 36, says. "As you get older, you play different roles." Given the role, it's logical to assume Cam is gagging to have kids, right?

Sorry. "People are obsessed with" that question, Cam says. "Most of my friends don't have kids. It's not uncommon."

Perez, the funny version

Funnyordie.com has posted a video that parodies the sad, weepy video that celeb-reporter-turned-wannabe-celeb

Perez Hilton

posted on his site in the wake of his alleged assault at the hands of Black Eyed Peas manager

Polo Molina

. It features

In other gossip-brawl news, Perez has filed a $25,000 lawsuit against Molina in Los Angeles charging battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress. And TMZ.com says Molina already is on probation on a DUI charge in California.

Jon & Kate . . . Minus 8?

So what will happen to the kids now that

Michelle Golland

, who ventures the radical hypothesis that the eight Gosselin tykes may be prone to "depression and anxiety" in reaction to the divorce. And Norristown-based family-law attorney

Mary Cushing Doherty

tells USA Today that the Montgomery County court where Kate filed for divorce may extend "the long arm of the law" to stop the kids from being further exploited as fodder for TLC's ratings. (TLC has temporarily suspended production.) Neither expert is actually involved with the case.
