We are very excited to announce an event that should become a major new addition to your beer-drinking calendar: Taste of the Brewvitational. It will be held May 11 at Reading Terminal Market.

With the Inquirer's Brewvitational competition for local beers now in its eighth year, we decided it was time to create an opportunity for the public to get involved. We will host a public tasting event, inviting beer lovers to gather with an estimated 30 local brewers to sip and vote for their favorite local craft beers.

The Brewvitational, with its private panel of expert judges, will take place earlier that day, in the same way it always has. Those judges will taste two other categories: best "new" beer, and this year's featured style, lagers.

The winners of all three categories will be announced that night at the Market. Molly Malloy's and All About Events catering will partner with us to help it all run smoothly.

To purchase tickets to Taste of the Brewvitational ($45 for early birds), go to philly.com/brewvitaste.

The competition is open to all breweries in the Philadelphia region. Official invitations went out Tuesday afternoon. If your brewery did not receive one, please contact me directly at claban@phillynews.com.
