Police ID weekend homicide victims

Police on Monday identified the victims of two weekend homicides. In the more recent case, Izesha Gateward, 32, died after she got into an argument with her boyfriend, who then allegedly beat her in the head and body with a hammer, police said.

In the more recent case, Izesha Gateward, 32, died after she got into an argument with her boyfriend, who then allegedly beat her in the head and body with a hammer, police said.

The attack happened about 5 p.m. Sunday in the 2500 block of North 17th Street in North Philadelphia. Paramedics declared her dead at the scene at 5:25 p.m., police said. There is no arrest at this time, police said.

In the earlier case, police responding to a report of a person with a gun just after 10 p.m. Saturday found Billy Neal, 25, bleeding on a sidewalk on the unit block of North 52nd Street in West Philadelphia.

Neal had been shot in the right arm, right shoulder and left buttocks. He died at Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center at 10:13 p.m., police said. Police reported no motive or arrest.

The city offers a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in all homicide investigations. Tipsters can call homicide detectives at (215) 686-3334.
