Police have released the names of two men gunned to death in separate incidents Wednesday in Philadelphia.

Shortly before 9 p.m., a man was fatally shot in the torso and leg, near the intersection of Millick and Arch Streets in West Philadelphia, police said.

Police identified him as Gerald Crittenton, 30, who lived in the 200 block of South 56th Street, about a mile from the shooting scene.

Crittenton was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was pronounced dead at 9:22 p.m.

Shortly before 1 a.m., a 29-year-old man was shot once in the head and four times in the body in the 8500 block of Mario Lanza Boulevard in Southwest Philadelphia, about a mile north of Philadelphia International Airport.

He was William Garnett of the 100 block of Barlett Street in nearby Sharon Hill.

He was pronounced dead at HUP at 1:04 a.m.

The two cases raised the year's homicide toll to 300, just ahead of last year's 296 through the same date.
