Two workers at a Delaware County chocolate factory were burned Sunday night by a flash fire in cocoa-roasting equipment, authorities said. The workers, whose identities were withheld, were admitted to Crozer Chester Medical Center.

Eddystone Fire Department Capt. Allen Reeves said the fire occurred about 8:30 p.m. at the Barry Callebaut USA plant, at 903 Industrial Highway. Reeves said the fire apparently began in a roasting machine but spread explosively to highly combustible ground cocoa in an adjacent hopper.

"They were trying to shut the machine down to stop the fire, and it ended up burning them," Reeves said. He said that one victim suffered second-degree burns on his left forearm and hand but that neither victim's burns were life-threatening.
