Three people were rescued Wednesday night from the roof of a SEPTA bus that became stranded in rising flood waters.

A SEPTA spokesman said it happened around 10 p.m. at the Route 61 bus turnaround area on Flat Rock Road in Manayunk.

The bus became stuck in several feet of water, stranding two passengers and an operator, SEPTA said. Fire officials said the driver and passengers climbed onto the roof of the bus as they awaited help.

All three people were rescued by boat and taken to Roxborough Memorial Hospital. Their conditions were not immediately available, but their injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening, according to SEPTA.

Authorities were working on towing the empty bus, which remained stuck at the location shortly before 11 p.m.
