Investigators are searching for the person who killed a man execution-style in Camden early Thursday, gunning him down as he sat in a car in the Gateway neighborhood.
The ShotSpotter gunfire-notification system drew police to 10th Street and Atlantic Avenue just before 12:15 a.m. They found William Alvarez, 25, suffering from gunshot wounds in the driver's seat.
Alvarez, of Camden, was taken to Cooper University Hospital and pronounced dead shortly afterward, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.
Investigators are looking into whether the killing may be linked to the murder of Alvarez's 35-year-old brother, Jose, who was shot Sept. 13 outside the All American Gardens apartment complex on the 1900 block of Phillips Street.
Andy McNeil, spokesman for the Prosecutor's Office, would not say whether there was any clear connection between the two.
"Detectives are looking at all aspects of the victim's life," he said of the William Alvarez killing.
Authorities have identified Armando Perez, 19, of Camden, as a suspect in Jose Alvarez's death but have not located him.
Authorities are offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to Perez's arrest. Anyone with information can call prosecutors at 856-580-5854 or police at 856-757-7420, or email ccpotips@ccprosecutor.org.
