Feds charge 19 in Camden drug case

Feds say 19 involved in conspiracy to sell drugs in Camden

Federal officials on Wednesday charged 19 people with participating in a drug trafficking organization that dealt in crack cocaine, cocaine, heroin and fentanyl on several blocks east of Camden's central waterfront district.

U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said the group had operated a for two years, first in the 1900 block of Filmore Street and later in the 400-500 blocks of Pine Street. He identified Ronnie Lopez, 40, of Pennsauken, as one of the alleged leaders of the organization.

Officials said the group was believed to have been involved in violence.

One of the defendants, Juan Figueroa, 21, of Camden, currently is in state custody, facing several charges in Camden County Superior Court regarding the Aug. 7 shooting of two law-enforcement officers.
