West Chester professor gets nursing fellowship

, been awarded a $120,000 fellowship for her work in geriatric nursing.

Monturo won the 2007 Claire M. Fagin Fellowship, awarded by the John A. Hartford Foundation. She will receive $60,000 a year for the next two years to support her research on the end-of-life treatment of veterans and whether their wishes are being met.

The professor has more than 25 years of experience in geriatric nursing, and this is her second award from the Hartford Foundation, which gave her a predoctoral scholarship in 2001.

Visitors to the First National Bank of Chester County this week will see works by the best young artists West Chester has to offer.

The bank is displaying 33 pieces of art, including watercolors, pottery, pastels and tin relief, in the Children's Art Exhibit, sponsored by the bank and Art Goes to School, a volunteer organization that supplies art-appreciation classes to West Chester schools. The art was supplied by third through fifth graders from the West Chester Area School District and Sts. Simon and Jude School.

The exhibit, which began with a reception and awards ceremony April 12, will run through May 11. First National Bank of Chester County is at 1371 Boot Rd.
