Manhole explosions in Old City under investigation
The incident happened Thursday morning around 9:30 a.m.
Crews are investigating two manhole explosions that happened Thursday morning in Old City.
The incident happened around 9:30 a.m., blowing the covers off manholes at Second and Market Streets and Second and Chestnuts Streets, said Kristina Pappas, a PECO spokeswoman. No injuries were immediately reported.
PECO is on site to investigate the cause of the explosion. No customers have been impacted as a result, Pappas said. SEPTA bus routes 17, 21, 33, 42 and 48 are experiencing detours in the area, a SEPTA spokesperson said.
The explosion comes days after a four-alarm fire broke out on 2nd and Chestnut Streets, ravaging an apartment building and neighboring businesses and restaurants.
