Two dead in South Philadelphia fire

"Our thoughts and prayers goes out to the community," the fire department said in a tweet early Saturday.

Two people are dead following a fire early Saturday in South Philadelphia's Point Breeze section, a Fire Department official said.

Firefighters responded to the 1400 block of South 23rd Street around 4:50 a.m., where they encountered heavy flames. The fire was placed under control at 5:30 a.m. The identities of the victims were not released.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the community," the department tweeted early Saturday.
