When she finished graduate school in 2005 and was looking for a starter home, the compact Cape Cod was perfect for Melissa Pirolli.

She had family in the area, and she loved the neighborhood feel, the active community with a Fourth of July parade every year, the short walk to the Regional Rail station, the restaurants and shops along Huntingdon Pike, and the easy commute to Center City, where she worked in health-care consulting.

Over the next 10 years she lived there at times with her sister or with friends and then seven more years with her new husband.

But now, with two small daughters, Melissa Pirolli-Marth and Will Marth have moved to a larger house in Blue Bell.

The new house brings them both closer to work — Will is in pharmaceutical analytics in Wilmington and Melissa now works in King of Prussia — but mostly gives them space they need.

The Rockledge house was built in 1951, and the couple said it needed cosmetic improvements over the years, including a finished basement, kitchen upgrades, two bathroom renovations, and new pavers in the patio.

There are hardwood floors and crown molding throughout the first and second floor.

The kitchen area has self-closing cabinets with pullout drawers, a tile backsplash, and under-cabinet lighting.

The primary bedroom is on the first floor with a sitting/office area. There is a remodeled bathroom on the first floor.

The other two bedrooms are on the second floor, with another remodeled bathroom. The basement has a large recreation area with room for a large flat-screen TV and a third full bathroom.

The driveway has space for three cars. Total square footage is 1,633.

The house is listed by Laura Blaney of Keller Williams Doylestown for $399,900.
