Eagles claim 3 off waivers; Paul Turner among 3 cuts

Howie Roseman said after the Eagles set their 53-man roster that the roster was fluid, and the Eagles proved that Sunday by claiming three players off waivers.

The Eagles added defensive back Terrence Brooks from the Baltimore Ravens, linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill from the New England Patriots, and wide receiver Bryce Treggs from the San Francisco 49ers, according to the league's daily transaction memo.

To make room for the three additions, the Eagles released wide receiver Paul Turner, defensive tackle Taylor Hart, and cornerback C.J. Smith.

Brooks, 25, was the most notable addition in the group. A 2014 third-round pick, Brooks played 23 games for the Ravens during the last two seasons. He provides safety depth for the Eagles. A former Florida State standout, Brooks was drafted while top Eagles personnel executive Joe Douglas worked for the Ravens.

Grugier-Hill, 22, was the Patriots' sixth-round pick this season out of Eastern Illinois. At 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, he's not big for a linebacker, but he ran a 4.45-second 40-yard dash and had been playing on the Patriots' top special-teams unit during a period of the preseason.

Treggs, 22, comes from the 49ers, where he joined Chip Kelly's team as an undrafted rookie from California. He had a knee injury that slowed him late in the preseason, but he reportedly had a strong training camp and was a candidate to join their practice squad. Treggs was a speed threat at Cal, where he averaged 21.2 yards per catch on 45 receptions during his senior season.

All 20 players the Eagles waived on Saturday cleared waivers. Two of them, wide receiver Cayleb Jones and tight end M.J. McFarland, were waived with injuries and revert to injured reserve. Linebacker Najee Goode is a vested veteran, so he was not subject to waivers after his release.
